A message from the kingdom (Desmond)

Mare loved her home both of them, in America, her brother dwelled and it were she was the happiest. No one could tell her anything bad about America without her yelling at them. But she also loved Scotland her birth home, her Kingdom. But some days..she wished she was never a princess to began with. She turned eighteen in two years time and within those two years would be the last of her freedom. She would have to go back and leave Desmond here. Her brother, her family. She hated the thought of it, but it was her duty. She would be queen soon. Not just a princess. Little princess as Desmond loved to call her. She would be the queen. Sure Desmond could come visit but she would never dream or keeping him with her...he belonged here.

She had come to the sweet shop because her mind was rather sour today. She had gotten a letter from the people who watched over her kingdom well she finished her studies. She was to marry a noblemen once she returned next summer for a ball in her honour for her birthday. Her 17th one. She had yet to tell her brother and it terrified her Desmond had always been protective since the moment he found her when she was young barely six years old. Her parents killed by a fire. He had raised her, he was the only family she knew. To tell him that she would be gone next year and might possibly not see him for a while hurt her.

She hated the thought but it had to be done. It was for her kingdom, they needed a King along with their Queen. She had no choose in the matter. She leaned against a wall and took a breath holding back tears. She didn't want to leave her brother but she had to, for her safety, for his. For her country. It was her duty her job to protect them. She would till the last second of her life. Unknowing to her that her emotions had caused a sudden lighting storm outside.

Desmond was a man who always seemed to know where to find the one he was looking for, his heart and well, sense of smell just guiding him but today? Today he struggled to find the one he truly wanted to find. Mare Morel, a woman he should be calling his little sister, not someone he wanted to call his everything. There was then a sudden crash of lightning, it sending him into shivers that only a certain magic could cause. He used his vampire speed to get to where it first crashed and then he smelled her, the sweet scent that could only be Mare and he entered the building, having ducked ever so slightly in order to not hit his head and he locked onto Mare, his heart halting at the distraught sight of her. "Mare? Little princess, what's the matter?" Desmond pleased, taking her small hands into his large cold ones.

She heard him before she saw him. Looking up her emotions ran high she was glad he was here but also terrfied, what would he say? What would he do? She looked back down a small tear running down her cheek before she shook it off, her face went blank and into what some of her friends called princess mode. "I got a message the other day, from the people who look after my kingdom for me well I am here finishing my studies." She started off slowly. "You know that when I turn 18 I go back to rule but apparently they do see me fit to rule alone...so I've been betrothed to another...a Prince not only for bigger army's and more money but so my kingdom has a king and not just a queen" With her words finished Mare just looked at the ground, she could hear the crashes of lighting as she stood there but she made no move to calm herself. She knew she would most likely be betrothed but she had always figured that it would be once she turned 18. "I am to marry him next summer when I go to visit for my birthday..."

Desmond froze at the sight of the tear, his heart halting in his chest before anger and concern took over, rushing forward to pull her into his arms until she spoke. He pulled away ever so slightly so that Desmond to take in her emotions, his expression revealing only his concern for her. Her words scared him terribly, his chance to claim her for his own now crumbling and for the first time ever, he had no idea what to say to Mare. "Y-you can't, Mare. You can't marry him! I refuse! I will get you all the money you will ever need, all the men. You don't need a King, all you need is loyalty and I can provide that. You're too young for merlin's sake!" He rambled and bowed his head, clenching his eyes shut as he tried to think of something, something to comfort the one he absolutely loved. "I will crash the wedding, I do not care. I will do whatever it takes to stop you from getting married to someone you don't even love! You should marry out of love, not because the world sees fit."

His words always made her feel calmer but now as he spoke they just hurt her. Reaching up slowly like she always did when he got upset she cupped his cheeks and pulled his face down so she could press her lips to his forehead. She had done this so many times she could do it in her sleep now. "I knew this would happen Desmond ever since I was a child, I have been suppose to rule since my parents died and they need to make sure that there are more heirs if I were to....to die" her words filled with anger and fear. "They need to make sure that if I die...that last heir to the throne.... That someone is there to care for my country" she sighed and hid her face in his neck. "You may be royalty in their eyes but that is only because I am around and you know it...I doesn't matter if I love someone or not, unless he is a noble or prince I would never be allowed to marry" she explained softly and sighed "it's just how my life is Desmond...you can't do anything about it, you can't save me, not this time"

Desmond closed his eyes, feeling the gentle kiss on his forehead that would always calm him down and he glanced down at Mare. "I knew it would happen also, I just wished it never did." He admitted, listening to the rest of words with great sadness in his eyes and he listened to the tone of her voice, hearing the sadness and fear just like when she was afraid of the storms and he would hold her, so tightly that he was a blanket of protection. "Ask for more time, another year. I'll fail you in school, anything to make sure you don't leave for Scotland. I need you here and you know that, Mare. You're the Princess, no, their Queen and you should be telling them what to do. Not the other way around." He told her, begged her and stared at her in the eyes until she rested her face into his neck. "I'll always be here to save you, little princess...always so I'm going to do that now. I'll save you now and there's nothing you can do about it."

Sighing Mare shook her head listening to him. He had known she would have to leave since the moment he found out about her family. "You don't need me here my country needs me, you want me here" she whispered softly and kissed his cheek, "you know even if I fail a year they will take me the moment I turn 18, I may be their queen. But the Queen is a pawn in a chess game, she had freedom more then the king but is still a pawn" she whispered softly and reached up running her hands though his hair. "You've been my knight since I was small but now I'm grown up and it's my turn to protect people, I need to care for my country my people come first not me" she whispered softly "I love you, you are my family and you will always be but I must think of my country above myself" she explained softly and shut her eyes tears running down her cheeks as she thought. "I'm sorry.."

Desmond stared at her, his expression turning puppy like and he couldn't help but smile ever so slightly. "Is it wrong to want you here? To keep you here forever? I would move with you but I can't, the school needs me also." He admitted. He would give Illvermory to someone else, if it meant that he could keep Mare around for the rest of his immortal life. He leaned into her touch, closing his eyes for a moment as he basked in her touch but then he stiffened, staring down at her with anger. "You may have an army, Mare but no one will protect you like I can. I understand your people also needs protection but your life is so much more important to me." Her telling him that she loves him causes his heart to beat frantically and he closed his eyes to relish in that moment where she could be saying that in declaration of her love for him but it was too good to be true. "I love you too, Mare, more than you will ever know. I guess I'll be the person to think of you higher than your people. But don't say you're sorry, don't say it like it's a goodbye...I cannot bear that..." He whispered brokenly, his eyes becoming bloodshot as tears threatened to spill over.

Listening to him her eyes filled with tears and she buried her face in his neck and sighed. "You may be stronger and faster then most Desmond but even you can't stand up to an army alone" she ran her fingers down the side of his face her touch as delicate as her words. "Someday it will be goodbye, you get to live forever and I someday will die if not by old age then by war, I am a princess my duty is to my kingdom not myself, if they go to war I go to war, if they starve I starve. I am their protector their ruler" she sighed and kissed just above his eye "don't you cry, you are in no harm and no pain, you should not be scared, I'll always be with you, for as long as I can" she smiled softly at her brother and cupped his cheek "someday I'll have to say goodbye and we know this, you belong in Brooklyn and I belong in Scotland...it is my home" she whispered softly and her hands were shaking as she held back her tears. "I don't want to leave you nor do I want to leave America it's my home...it's where you raised me but Scotland needs me" she whispered "I can't afford to be selfish, you know this" she hadn't ment to but electricity flowed from all around her into her small figure and danced along her skin leaving shocks along his skin as she touched him. "I'm sorry..you should get to have a sister that doesn't have to leave but I do...it's my job to leave apparently" she whispered

Desmond held her, burying his face in her hair and he chuckled ever so slightly. "I have done before, for a reason much lesser than this. Imagine how I'd be fighting for someone I care about." He whispered into her hairline and leaned into her hand, kissing the palm of it like he would when she was younger. Her comment about him living forever and her dying at an old age frightened him, it reminding him of the death of his parents. "I'd give up immortality for you, Mare. You know that but in this occasion, I wouldn't have to. I'd change you. Then you wouldn't need a king." He said, smiling nervously down at her. He'd do anything to ensure her staying in Brooklyn, for just a little longer. "You're my home, Mare. I wish, just this once, you would be selfish. Just this once...You always think of others and I love you for that but I wish you wouldn't. So that I too can be selfish and keep you here." He shivered at the sensations of the electricity and he closed his eyes, resting his chin on the top of her head as the tears rolled down his cheeks.

Mate watched him carefully and sighed softly "you aren't a monster Desmond no matter what you are" she smiled slightly at him and ran her fingers down his arm just relaxing. Shaking her head she bit her lip "I'd love to be just like you I have since I was little but even then they would want more heirs i am the last of my line and it's dangerous if I die no one is to take my place. Desmond they don't want me to marry for money or for men they want me to bare children Desmond, the need heirs not money or men" she explained sadly as she looked at him frowning she pulled him down to face her "don't cry please, I hate it when you cry Desmond" she kissed where she saw a tear and ran her hand down his neck leaving shocks in her path. "I'll have to marry even if you turn me"

Desmond couldn't stand the looks now, the people around them staring at their closeness and he gripped her waist, apparating them back into the warmth of their home, along with some sweets as he knew she'd want them. "You can be like me, that way I can be with you for all of time and you won't have to worry about a thing and if you're immortal, there is no need for heirs until a later date. It can stall it..." He pleaded, wanting to make sure she didn't have to marry at such a young and stupid age. He sat down on the sofa, pulling her into his lap and he nuzzled at her neck to feel the electricity tingle at his body. "My little lightning princess..." Desmond whispered and wanted to shout at her, to tell her to marry him instead and to run away with him. They can find a different Queen, as long as he could keep his.

Feeling the warmth of home make her relax and she stood there smiling as she watched him. Sighing she nodded slightly and being pulled into his lap made her smile as she traced little circles on his skin. "It's not like I wanna leave Desmond I want to stay here with you in Brooklyn" she smiled as he relaxed into her neck. Smiling she relaxed against him "I love it here and I love you but they would find some way around it they would say I'm to reckless or to new of a vampire to stay here or something...they always find a way" she whispered and kissed his forehead and wrapped her arms around his back just relaxing against his chest.

Desmond smiled sadly and he held her as tightly as possible without hurting her. "I wish you could stay forever." He murmured honestly and he looked up at her, his eyes taking in every detail of her face. "I love you too. I'll visit but I will make sure someone is always there to protect you. I just want you to be safe. I'd stay with you always but being the headmaster means I must stay." He said honestly, wanting to hold her forever but he knew he'd ahave to stop soon before his frozen heart starting to thump frantically, allerting the girl he loved how he felt.

Mare sighed softly and kissed his cheek "I wish I could as well...I wish I could" she whispered and tears split down her face and she buried her face in his neck, not meaning to she sucked enough energy out of their house that the lights went off. She didn't even notice. Crying softly she held onto him "I don't wanna loose more family...I wanna keep the little one I have now and it's being taken from me like before" she whispered and she was shaking now. She felt his heart beat and it made her smile as she nuzzled against his chest holding onto him. "Don't move...please..." Her voice filled with pain "please not yet I can't loose you yet" she whispered her tears hitting his shirt as she cried silently

Darkness consumed the house, apart from the few strands of light the windows provided and his eyesight quickly adjusted, allowing him to take in Mare's beautiful face. He stared sadly at her, cupping her cheek and he kissed at her forehead, smelling the rose scent that always seemed to be attached to her skin. "You won't ever lose me. How many times must I tell you? You'e stuck with me whether you like it or not." He told her, his voice rumbling with the faintness of a growl that underlined the promise. Her begging for him to not move caused his body to freeze, wanting her to be happy and not cry. "I refuse to let you go. You will only go until absolutely necessary. I don't care what you say, Mare. I know it's your home but you are mine and I will only let you go until they show me better reasons for you to go back." He said, tightening his grip on her and he put his face in her neck, breathing her in. "I'll do everything in my power to stop this wedding." He mumbled, his heart breaking at the idea of her getting married to someone...that wasn't him.

Hearing him talk she sighed softly and looked at him her eyes soft smiling slightly as she felt his lips against her forehead. Laughing softly she nodded and ran her fingers down his jaw line her electricity filled fingers shocking him slightly along the way. "I don't think I could ever dislike being stuck with you" She smiled at him kindly and relaxed a lot more once she felt his grip tighten around her, he was always so protective of her and she loved it. It made her feel safe. Looking down at him she smiled. Hearing his last words made her frown and soon she rested her head against his own. Raising her hands slightly she rested them on his shoulder blades and relaxed. She hated the idea of leaving to go back to Scotland but then she remembered she would die some day...he wouldn't well not from old age at least. She couldn't stand the thought of leaving him alone not forever at least.

Leaning down she kissed his cheek a tear running down her own. Two words fell from her mouth in a tone that showed how much she cared for her brother, how much she coudn't stand the thought of leaving him. "Change me" She whispered so softly against his ear like they were the most important words in the world. Which to her, they were. "Please Desmond...please...I can't...I don't...I don't want to die and leave you alone...I can't stand the thought...please..." She begged him praying he would, he had offered earlier so there was no reason for him not to do it now. "Please Desmond...please, change me, let me stay with you forever, I can't bare the thought of leaving you alone...please" She whispered and made him look at her cupping his cheek "please" She whispered softly tears in her eyes at the mere thought of leaving him alone for his immortal life span. She couldn't do that to him. Not now, not ever.

As time went on, as Desmond held Mare longer and longer, he grew more and more terrified. Her gentle touches soothed him but not completely, nerves still shocking him on the inside whilst her abilities shocked the outside. Whilst most people wouldn't like the sensation of electricity on their skin, he absolutely adored it as it made him feel alive, much like Mare did. He didn't want her to go, every part of him screamed at him to just...tell her and just as he opened his mouth, having built up the courage, she whispered something to him that shocked him to the core.

"Mare..." He whispered in return, mouth open wide in shock but it wasn't what she said that shocked him. No, he knew she'd ask him one day but it was the way she did. Her tone managed to send every part of him alight and he wanted to kiss her, oh how he wished he could. She didn't want to leave him living his immortal life alone and part of him wondered if she felt the same but knowing the fiery woman in his arms, she would've said so sooner. He cupped her cheek and brushed away the tears with his thumb, their faces so close to each other. "Are you sure? Are you certain you want to be immortal?" Desmond demanded, having already rushed them to his bedroom, the room she had actually never entered. Whenever she had a nightmare or was scared of storms, he had always been awake and would go to her room. Never his.

Mare had almost not heard him, she wasn't ever allowed in here. Why she had no idea it was simply beautiful. Looking around she smiled before turning back around and nodding walking to him slowly. "I've wanted this since I was little, you know this,then" She told him a small smile on her face "I'm sure I must have asked a million times when I was small" She giggled softly at the memories as she reached forward taking his much larger hand in her own smaller ones. The heat from her hands a huge contrast to his cold ones. "Please Desmond...please I'm not some little girl anymore I know what I want and what I want is to be like you" She told him reaching up and cupping his cheek softly "Please Desmond" She looked at him with eyes that showed both excitement and fear, the fear Mare herself couldn't even tell if it was caused by the idea of him saying no, or him saying yes. Ether way she wanted this more than anything right now.

Desmond took in her expression, pleased that she liked it and he then began to just take her in, the way she smiled so delicately at only him and it sent him alight and then the way her eyes twinkled from the tears that threatened to shed from before. "Aye, you did ask a lot but of course I always said when you're older. And if you're old enough to your kingdom for betrothal..." The word burned his throat to say, cracked his heart and blinded his sight in a red haze, wanting to murder every person who dared lay hands on his beautiful Queen. He stared down at their hands, smiling sadly as he knew the heat from her own would change after this. "Okay, Mare, I'll do it." Agreeing scared him, terrified him as he wouldn't know if she'd be one of those people who felt his emotions and saw his memories. Whilst he would've loved for her to know how he felt, he wanted to tell her, to shout it into the world but he knew he'd only have to say it to her. She was his world, she was perfect for him as if the earth created her with the spirit of the storms and stars and gave her to him. "I'm going to need you to lay down, my lightning queen." He gulped out, his heart beginning to pump frantically as he would have to sleep in this bed and he would be consumed by her scent.

Smiling widely at him she giggled and hugged him tightly kissing his cheek. "Thank you!" She smiled even wider at him and slowly calmed herself and nuzzled against him for a moment or two, her whole body felt like it was on fire from how excited she was, even the in here began to flicker indacting how excited she was. Hearing his next words she only nodded and smiled at him grabbing his hand she tugged him along with her to make sure he couldn't turn away from what he had promised. "You and your silly nicknames" She whispered smiling at him. Sitting down on his bed she looked up at him a smile on her face. "Thank you" She whispered as she slowly let go of his hand before shifting around so she could lay down properly. Her hair spread out on his pillow and she looked at him her smile kind and trusting, she trusted him with her life and she wasn't scared one bit.

Mare's happiness was all that mattered to Desmond and he couldn't help but beam a smile down at her small stature. He couldn't help but chuckle at the fact she believed she had to drag him, to ensure he didn't back away from his promise. "It's better than me calling you Mare Bear. I think i still have a scar from that lightning shock you gave me." He teased her, enjoying the playful and happy energy that was now in the room, the fear dulling slightly. He stroked at her hair, moving it all away from her neck before looking her in the eye, it always halting his breath whenever he did but even more so when she looked at him like that. So trusting and loving. "My transformation hurt because it was rushed and by someone who did not know me. I hope that it won't hurt for you.." He whispered and leaned into her neck, hiding the way his fangs stuck out and the redness of his eyes and before he could hesitate, he bit into his wrist before biting into her neck. This allowed his blood to enter her body without having to put his blood into her mouth, as well as letting the special venom in his system to enter her. "Sleep well, Mare.. I cannot wait to see you as a vampire." Desmond murmured into her neck, having practically yanked himself away to stop himself from drinking all of her honey like blood, the best he had ever had.

Mare let him move her hair and giggled softly, "It is so much better than Mare Bear" she whispered watching him carefully. She watched him move so he could bite into his wrist and the moment she felt his fangs on her neck she let out a soft gasp. She laid there for about two seconds before shutting her eyes letting out a sigh as her grip on his shoulders loosened.

How long had she been out? How long had she been lying there, touching her neck she slowly sat up and her mouth was dry, so very dry. She looked out the window and though no physical pain came to her it still stung her eyes slightly from how bright it was. She was thirsty so very thirsty. Slowly she stood up careful not so make herself dizzy. One thing on her mind one thinks echoing out through out her whole being. Hungry. She was hungry. Walking slowly she pulled open the door and whimpered at the sudden light, and she thought his room had been bright. "Thirsty" She whimpered out softly unknowing to her that her eyes were bright red as she whimpered out again. "Thirsty" The one word she kept echoing as if it was the very thing keeping her alive.

Wandering slowly she wandered to the kitchen her red eyes looked around whimpering more. "Thirsty" One track mind much? Then the door bell rang, she could smell her all the way out here. Her mind blanked excpect for one thing, blood. She wandered foward and opened the door, it was the lady who lived across the street. She was asking for some flour or something for baking she couldn't have been older then 35 but that didn't matter to mare. She leaned forward and she heard the women's questions asking her what she was doing. With out thinking Mare bit down on the womens neck drinking quickly having no self control.

Desmond watched her fall asleep, the gasp having scared him as he thought he hurt her but from the way her face looked, he let himself calm. He couldn't help but think of how beautiful she was sleeping. She looked so peaceful and it made him want to protect her even more. He couldn't help but lean down, cupping her cheek and his lips fell upon hers and even that, made his whole body feel like fireworks. He knew he shouldn't of done that and he backed away, touching his lips with a faint smile and whispered into the air that he would return soon.


Whilst she slept, allowing the change to take over, Desmond spent those days preparing her bedroom with a small mini bar of blood bags before searching high and low for someone to charm a ring that he had bought Mare only two years ago. He hated taking it off her sleeping body but he returned it the moment it would allow her to walk into the sunlight. He had thought he had a day extra to make preparations, to find a way to tell her kingdom of her change and for the first day in months, he fell asleep. He was awoken slightly by the doorbell but then full awakened by the sound of a woman struggling and he rushed to the door, yanking Mare away from the lady who had already died. "Shit," He hissed into the air and was thankful that was around six in the morning and that the woman who died was single and new to town. He slammed the door shut and dumped the woman in one of the bathrooms they had downstairs, before speeding back to Mare, cupping her cheeks and he examined her with the memory of him kissing her replaying in his mind. "Do you still need a blood bag?" He asked, clicking his fingers in front of her face so she stayed focused.

Mare smelt him way before she even heard his footsteps. Spinning around she whimpered even in her current state she hated it when he seemed upset. But her mind soon went back to her previous train of thought. Her eyes glowing once more. "Thirsty" She whispered softly and like a machine she moved forward sniffing at his neck whimpering softly. Everything in her body was screaming at her to bite down, to drink. But she wouldn't she couldn't hurt him. "Thirsty" She whimpered out again her fangs trailing on his neck slightly. Her mind over come with the thought of blood. "Thirsty" She said a bit louder this time and in one second she had bit down on his neck her hands gripping his shoulders extremly tightly. She was drinking from him now and no rhyme or reason came to her as to why she should stop. So she kept going.
